Red-heads have more fun…

May 4th, 2011

…in the studio anyway. Here’s a quick pic from yesterday’s hair shoot for the amazing Sam* at Orbe. We were just about done for the day but I wanted to mix  things up a bit and get all moody, I just love the drama and of course the gorgeous hair colour. The model is Erin from Pride, make-up by Dan at Orbe. I’ll post more from this shoot soon…

*Of course, the day I’m shooting for my hairdresser my hair drier overheats and frazzles my hair, how embarrassing!

These were taken at a shoot yesterday for Mylk Bottle (check out their Autumn stock in store now). Needless to say, Alys from Finesse Models is AMAZING*, she was also very worn out when we finished with this outfit! Below are a few more of my favourite shots from the shoot with a little play on colour for your Tuesday morning :

And some of the shots as you will see them on Mylk Bottle’s Facebook page & website.

Looking for sun : found clouds

March 10th, 2011

A couple of weeks ago I decided that I needed a new shoot for an ad in Attitude Magazine (which comes out today by the way). I couldn’t get past the idea of long hair, a big dress and movement (lots of movement). You know the Chanel No 5 films, where the gorgeous actress is always turning away from a very handsome man?

So in the course of a day and a half I organised a model, hair, make-up, dress, shoes, a last minute assistant* and got it shot. I was really sick with a cold that day and not very inspiring but I definitely got the shot I was after and then got a few more (though in my head we were shooting in full sun, cruel I know, but it didn’t end up happening anyway).

I haven’t picked up a copy of Attitude yet, but the photo on the right is in there somewhere as a full page ad :

In my head, the whole shoot was to be b&w but when I saw what Daniel was doing with make-up I had to shoot some for colour :

And some out-takes just for kicks :

*my good friend Andrea Laube helped out on this one, she also ate all of my Eclairs ;o)

model [Alice Hayward, Finesse] : dress [Alexis George] : shoes [Wittner, Rundle Mall] : hair & make-up [Orbe] : a big thank you to you all!

Breaking my own rules

February 4th, 2011

I’m kind of breaking my own rule here, generally anything I shoot at a workshop is for me, for inspiration, for me to refer to in the future, I don’t like to put images where I haven’t had control over the set-up* out there for the world to see. But….

*this was shot at Studio 177 during a Koukei Workshop, lighting set up by Peter Coulson, model is Natascha Verkaik, Vicious Models (both from Melbourne), hair & make-up by Natascha. No retouching has been done to this image, global adjustments to curves, colour balance and cropping.

sneak peek #2 : Luke & Tash

January 31st, 2011

After my initial post from Luke & Tash’s wedding last week, I really really can’t cut the shots for a proper sneak peek down, so sorry in advance for how many photos there are in this post!

Luke & Tash met through church, they are so so sweet and genuine, both of them are, just seriously, the loveliest couple you could ever meet. After ordering a dress from the internet that didn’t turn out quite perfect, Tash (a fashion designer) did the ultimate wedding DIY project : made her own dress!! She warned me a couple of months before the wedding that I needed to find an awesome staircase to show off her “really big” dress. Turns out she wasn’t lying, this may well be the largest wedding dress I’ve shot to date and it wasn’t the slightest bit overdone. I do love a good chilled out vinyard wedding, but I just can’t resist playing around with a big dress and bringing that extra bit of fashion style to a wedding*.

Luke & Tash were married at Life Christian Centre on Angas Street. After doing the formal family photos inside the church, we headed to Adelaide Uni to take advantage of the beautiful aritechture (and the shade). We then headed to the Benjamin on Franklin for some chill out time and some more photos in the cool air con. Thanks so much to the staff for making us so welcome (make sure you organise these types of things with the venue, they appreciate it)!

Tash had wanted two chandeliers, from her parents’ house, on the stage at the church, Luke told me when I arrived at the church that they weren’t allowed to use them, so I was very glad to see them just inside the reception venue, what a stunning personal touch!

Congratulations my lovelies, I hope you had a wonderful wedding day and you bring each other joy and happiness for many years to come. Thank you for the honour, it was truly a joy to photograph your wedding day.

xx

*as long as we have time, no body wants to feel rushed on their wedding day, make sure you allow at least and hour and a half for your photography between your ceremony and reception, we had 3 hours this day and in 32 degree weather, we needed it
